US tournament news!

Newcastle Roller Girls are excited for Mayhem 2017We’re excited to announce that our A team, the Canny Belters, will compete at Mayhem 2017 in Loveland, Colorado in June! But we need a little help from our friends to get there…

Taking part in international tournaments is of huge benefit to the league – playing against high profile US teams will help the Canny Belters to boost their worldwide WFTDA ranking and is great exposure for the league on an international level.

Co-captain Missy Pow Pow explains, “We applied for several tournaments this year and got invited to even more. We chose to go to Mayhem because it’s a well established WFTDA event which attracts a good range of teams. We really want to get more tournament experience, as well as experience of playing teams from outside of Europe so we can test ourselves against different styles of play.

Co-Captain Lucy Tyler adds, “We want to represent North East sport on the world stage and Mayhem is the perfect opportunity for us! However, the cost puts us Geordies at a disadvantage. We train three times a week together, have skaters who represent England, Ireland and Scotland in our squad and it is essential for our progress that we compete with high level North American teams.

Taking a team 4,460 miles across the pond is expensive and we’re committed to sending our most talented skaters, not just the players who can afford the trip. So we’ve launched a fundraising campaign offering limited-edition merchandise in return for donations. Visit https://www.gofundme.com/nrg-fundraiser-2017 for more information or to support our campaign. Thank you!
