Kalamity James – Head Coach

Kalamity has been our Head Coach since January 2015 and is also the longest serving member of NRD. She has been skating for six years and throughout that time has consistently coached for NRD, and guest coached for other leagues across the UK.

Kalamity has been on NRD’s A team, the Canny Belters since its foundation, as both a jammer and a blocker. She also served as crossover skater for our B team the Whippin’ Hinnies, giving her a unique insight into the needs of not just advanced A team skaters but also intermediate skaters looking to up their game.

As Head Coach she takes the lead in planning and designing our coaching matrix, ensuring that the league is focusing on the right skills and tactics to perform well for each game. If you’re a senior or head coach for you own league, away from the track, she can share coaching structures and advise how to get the most out of your skaters, with leadership experience and qualifications under her belt. She can also talk about goal setting and how to reach them.

On track Kalamity can teach you about smart blocking, clever footwork as well as practical strategies and tactics that you can take back to your own league and use to start getting results!

Kalamity has headed up a coaching committee which has seen NRG’s A team jump from 23rd in Europe to 8th and becoming silver medalists at their first international in Belgium, at A Skate Odyssey, in 2015. They also jumped from 13th to 3rd in the UKRDA rankings!

As a self-confessed roller derby geek, Kalamity is always watching derby, going to high level bootcamps, taking away everything she can and translating it back into usable tools for her team, and she can do the same for you!
