30 Wendi Go-Go

Wendi Go-Go 30What’s the inspiration behind your derby name?
I wanted a fun roller derby name and I was thinking of things related to North America. I thought it was a cute play on a fearsome creature!

How did you first discover roller derby / what convinced you to join?
I’m not really sure how I heard of roller derby, but after watching Whip It, I definitely wanted to find out more! It took me forever to finally take the plunge. I was even a no-show at the try-outs for one of my local teams… but, I finally got myself there a year later and never looked back!

What have you learned from roller derby?
Roller derby has taught me so much about myself. It’s given me a lot of confidence I needed and has even helped me in my job.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to get involved with their local team?
Try it, but give yourself a few sessions to decide if it’s for you. Also, make sure you attend a few games to see what it’s like in action.

What other sports / training do you do when you’re not on eight wheels?
I usually spend my lunch breaks at the gym cross-training. I lift heavy things and do HIIT style workouts to work on strength and stamina. I also like to go hiking, running, and bouldering.
