What was your proudest roller derby moment?
Best blocker against London Batter C/making the crossovers team
How did you first discover roller derby / what convinced you to join?
Caroline (Fugazi) convinced me to go to a roller disco the day I moved to Newcastle. I hadn’t even unpacked my car. I was rubbish but thoroughly enjoyed it. Fresh meat started the next day and the rest is history!
Favourite player to watch / learn from?
In our league there are so many different styles, I love watching Lucy jam as she’s a little jukes power box and I love a good Roly Mary hit.
What have you learned from roller derby?
So much, it’s totally made me more confident and stronger both physically and mentally. I have also learned that I bruise like a peach.
Most embarrassing moment at a game / practice?
At practice, full of cold. Fell so hard on my bum that it made me exhale… through my nose. Needless to say, there were some severe snot issues. It was not a good look!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to get involved with their local team?
Go for it, everyone is super welcoming and it’s a great way to keep fit and have fun!
