How did you get into Roller Derby?
Marie Bayonet (my muggle world bff) saw ‘whip it!’ and we knew straight away we needed to play roller derby- we were making plans to join a team and buy skates before the credits even rolled.
Who do you admire most the in the roller derby world?
My current favorites are Scald Eagle from Rose City and Sarah Hipel from Texas. I’m obsessed with their footwork and power but most of all their tenacity on track. My all time heroes are London Brawling- when you watch them you can see how much much passion, commitment and smarts has gone into their game play. Big shout out for Juicy Lucy for all her kind help and advice over the years.
What is your proudest derby moment?
Our third time lucky win against Glasgow’s Maiden Grrders. It came after a hard fought year of rebuilding our team and some heartbreaking losses. I knew when I woke up that morning how far the team had come and that we would take the bout. We did it, it was beautiful and cried on the way home because I was so proud.
What is your most embarrassing derby moment?
I have few:
That time I fell on Sniper face with my crotch
That time I ran full force clockwise into Brie
That time I head butted Danger and gave her a black eye
What do you get out of being involved with Newcastle Roller Girls?
So,so much! I get to play a game I love three time a week not to mention being involve with the most amazing, fun and supportive people you could hope to meet. It so corny but through roller derby and our league I’ve found an inner strength and capabilities that I didn’t know I had.
