Jailhouse Block – our next home bout!

Saturday June 29th sees Newcastle Roller Girls’ second home bout of 2013 at our usual haunt, Walker Activity Dome.  Our B team the Whippin’ Hinnies are up for a rematch versus Halifax’s Bruising Banditas – the Newcastle side took the win on Bandita turf in December last year with a convincing 195-86 scoreline. And it’s a return game for the main event too – our ‘A’ skaters the Canny Belters have invited Central City Roller Girls‘ B squad the Slay Belles up for another game after just scraping a 118-102 win against them before Christmas. Can Newcastle take both wins again? There’s only one way to find out…

(Under 12s have the honour of free entry, however under 16s must be accompanied by an adult).

Venue: Walker Activity Dome (formerly the Lightfoot Centre), Wharrier Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE6 3BR

Doors open at  11.45am – Get there early to reserve one of those sought after suicide seats!

Advance tickets SOLD OUT. Buy yours on the door for £7.50!

New fresh meat intake 30/06/2013!

Due to the massive success of our current fresh meat intake, we’ve decided to make history and run another 15 week course as soon as our current batch of new skaters graduate! The sessions will start on Sunday June 30th at our usual venue, Walker Activity Dome. You can find out all the important details on the official Facebook event. And if that wasn’t enough to get you excited, we’ll be holding an open session the week before on Sunday June 23rd so you can see what really goes on at practice. All the info is once again over on the Facebook event. Can’t wait to skate with you!

Reaper visits NRG!

On Sunday May 5th the post minimum skills skaters here at Newcastle Roller Girls were treated to a very special coaching session from none other than the Men’s European Roller Derby Championships 2012 Best Jammer and Southern Discomfort super star, Reaper! Reaper is heading to The Big O in Oregon across the Atlantic with the rest of Southern Discomfort and was coaching us and Tyne & Fear to raise some cash, and NRG managed to donate a total of £175 for his trip. Please come back soon, Reaper!

Belters play and win first international bouts… back to back!

The Canny Belters recently travelled to the Emerald Isle to take on Limerick Roller Derby and Cork City Firebirds. Not content with playing Newcastle Roller Girls’ first ever international bouts, they went and played them back to back.

The Belters’ endurance training back in the Toon paid off as they won both games with large differentials.

Belters vs Limerick Roller Derby – 397-48
Belters vs Cork City Firebirds – 250-132

Canny Belters take on the Tayzers and win

Congratulations to the Belters who took on Dundee’s Silvery Tayzers, in Dundee and won 240-199.

This was almost bang on the predicted score for this game, so the Belters will move neither up nor down as a result of this match.

It was hard fought game, thanks for having us Dundee and we look forward to the rematch!
